About
The genesis of the name “PVminer Pixs” starts with the region where I was born and raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania. It was known as the Panther Valley. After graduating college with a degree in geology, I became the 4th generation coal “Miner” at an anthracite mine near my hometown. Although my career resulted in moving west to other coalfields and in ultimately changing career paths to leadership roles in the electric utility industry, my roots and how my interest in photography developed was not forgotten.
I remember my father having two cameras, which he carried to each family gathering and vacation. As a pre-teen, he took black and white photos with a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye camera. During my teenage years, he used an Argus C3 from which he had 35 mm slides made. His enthusiasm for photography and traveling rubbed off on me, and his Argus C3 became my first camera.
Today, I reside with my wife in the St Louis, MO area. Having now retired, the passion for travel and photography continues. We have been to all 7 continents and over 45 countries. Consequently, I tend to gravitate to travel and landscape photography, although I have also taken several other genres, such as flora, wildlife, night, street, and macro photos. In doing so, I have followed through on my motto to, “Capture the world through a lens from the ground up.”
My work has been displayed in several local exhibits with recognition. Also, my photographs have been published by The Washington Post, The St. Louis Dispatch, and The Times News.
